In the long list of birthday parties we celebrate throughout our lives, the 5th Birthday is one to remember. With this in mind I began work on a fairytale masterpiece for our 5 year old niece, Eden Ruby.
Having thought about the traditional castle cakes with egg-white icing and ice-cream cone roofs, I decided I wanted something a little more magical.
I got to work on the finer details, cutting out pastel coloured hearts and making all the little fairies and embelishments the night before. What flavour cake would be fit for a princess? Pink and blue marble cake of course :)
With the cake cooked and the icing on I really let my imagination run wild as I channelled my inner 5 year old and began decorating this cake as if I were playing with a miniature dollhouse.
With all the towers, fairys, dragonflies and hearts in place, I felt like I had done Cinderella proud.
Though this cake looked spectacular in the end, it was a real labour of love and as I pasted the last heart on roof-top, I smiled inside, with the knowledge that birthdays only come once a year :)
